CEO of recycling company Näringslivets Producentansvar to step down in autumn 2026
Helena Nylén, CEO of the recycling company Näringslivets Producentansvar, has decided to hand over the role to a new CEO, with the transition planned for autumn 2026. During her five years as CEO, she has led the transformation from Förpacknings- och tidningsinsamlingen (FTI) to Näringslivets Producentansvar (NPA) and laid the foundation for an entirely new business model within Sweden’s reformed extended producer responsibility system.“During her time as CEO, Helena has done an outstanding job for NPA. She played a decisive role in building the organisation and established a new company structure in record time. In just 18 months, a fully operational organisation was created, together with the Board and employees, in a completely new landscape for packaging producers. Since then, she has successfully developed and consolidated the company and will hand over a financially stable business with a robust organisation to her successor,” says Bengt Lagerman, Chairman of the Board of NPA.
NPA began its operational activities on 1 January 2024, when responsibility for the collection of packaging waste was transferred from FTI to Sweden’s municipalities. Today, the company has more than 9,000 affiliated producers and a market share of approximately 90 percent. Under Name Name’s leadership, NPA has developed new IT systems and services that are now used by large parts of the value chain.
Through the approximately SEK 4 billion in packaging fees paid annually by producers, NPA finances municipal collection as well as the logistics and recycling processes that handle more than 500,000 tonnes of packaging waste each year. The company has a clear objective: that all packaging should be capable of being materially recycled.
“I have had the privilege of leading NPA through a unique and extensive transformation within the Swedish waste and recycling sector. I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me to build and develop the organisation together with the Board and our employees. It has been both challenging and immensely rewarding. Now the time is right to hand over responsibility for the next phase of the company’s development,” says Helena Nylén.
The recruitment process for a new CEO has been initiated in cooperation with Navigio. Helena Nylén will remain in the role as CEO until autumn 2026.
