NPA returns SEK 350 million to affiliated producers
In October, packaging producers who are affiliated with Näringslivets Producentansvar will receive a total of SEK 350 million in refund. The background is lower costs for collection and recycling during the first half of 2025.Näringslivets Producentansvar (NPA) is refunding SEK 350 million to packaging producers in October. The refund applies to producers who are, or have been, affiliated with NPA during 2025 and who have reported packaging made of paper, plastic, or metal intended for private use.
The reason is that the fees collected during the first six months of the year have exceeded the actual costs of collection and recycling. The lower costs are partly due to the slower-than-expected rollout of property-level collection by municipalities. In addition, energy and fuel prices have fallen rapidly after the high levels of recent years.
– For us, it is important that the system for collecting and recycling packaging is transparent and that we charge the correct fees. Now that we have a surplus, it is only natural that we refund it to our affiliated producers, says Helena Nylén, CEO of Näringslivets Producentansvar
The first refund will take place as a credit on the invoice in October 2025. Up to two additional refunds may follow, depending on how costs develop during the rest of the year.
– The fact that we are making this refund is a consequence of our cost-conscious approach and our openness about our results, says Bengt Lagerman, Chairman of the Board, NPA.
The amounts that are refunded are:
- Paper: SEK 2.24/kg, which corresponds to an average of 29 percent compared to the fees for 2025.
- Plastic: SEK 2.34/kg, which corresponds to an average of 17 percent compared to the fees for 2025.
- Metal: SEK 2.63/kg, which corresponds to an average of 15 percent compared to the fees for 2025.
